This summer Whoosh Explore Canoe Club has gone mobile with paddling sessions running from our paddle sport trailers with activities based at Twyford Lock and Sheering Mill Lock on the River Stort.
We have some great weekday paddling sessions going on, as well as conservation work to remove Himalayan Balsam taking place on the river with our environmental conscious paddlers looking to remove invasive weeds in working parties, paddlers planning on heading out each week with volunteers to tackle riverside areas and hopefully remove plants before they set seed. Our approach to this is a pull it up, and stamp it out one which has protected the river stort from having lots of chemicals and weed killer which could be harmful to other wildlife and river plant life.
We have also been really please that the pennywort patrols have not spotted any new growth of pennywort on the sites that had an infestation of the weed last year.
Taster sessions are taking place in the evenings from Twyford Lock as well as some Saturday Taster sessions over the Summer and some great trips away planned to the River Nene and Autumn paddling on the River Dart.
Well done Team Whoosh.
